Family and domestic violence advocates have raised concerns that the federal government’s upcoming AusAlert test could compromise the safety of victim-survivors who rely on “safe phones”.

Deb Murray, senior manager of Women’s & Family Safety Services at Communicare, told 6PR Weekends host Chrissy Morrissy that the alert could place women in immediate danger.

“Many of the victim-survivors that the service system get to work with do have a concealed mobile phone … So if this hidden phone is discovered it could be our victim-survivor and her children in immediate danger if a perpetrator does locate her safe phone,” she said.
