Kelpies for Kids is a Western Australian charity that supports sick regional and remote children by pairing them with Kelpie puppies in training– providing a welcome distraction while they undergo medical care.

Grant Cooke, a volunteer handler, told 6PR Mornings host Simon Beaumont that after completing their training, the Kelpies are auctioned off at the Royal Show, with all funds raised going directly back to children in need.

“These children come to the city for their treatment because it’s not available in the country, they have to invest a lot of time in recovery and taking the medication, whether it be for oncology, cancer, autism … doesn’t matter, it’s a broad spectrum”, Cooke said.
