Has Rottnest lost its magic? Tourism Council weighs in on cost dispute

Accommodation rates on Rottnest Island have appeared to surge by 30% in just one year. As preparations for Summer 2024-2025 are underway, the island is now seeking expressions of interest for businesses to operate there.

CEO of the Tourism Council WA Evan Hall told Chrissy Morrissy on 6PR Afternoons, “The 30 per cent figure has been a little bit inflated, it’s not like they’ve all gone up by 30 per cent.”

“It’s hard to say whether the prices for Rottnest Island accommodation itself is overpriced or more likely still underpriced compared to the market. The truth is there is just not that much beachside accommodation in Western Australia. I think that’s the magic of Rottnest,” Mr Hall said.

Has the island improved or not, and what would you like to see on Rottnest?
