Owners of the Kimberley Hotel in Halls Creek are seeking to build a 590-metre electric fence around the pub to stop an escalation in thefts and break-ins.

The pub, 2600km north of Perth, is one of the only accommodation options for essential FIFO staff such as doctors, nurses and trades workers, but shire president Malcolm Edwards says they are being harassed by local youth gangs prominent in the area and a bigger fence may be required.

“Look I feel it is a bad look but if the Kimberley Hotel has to feel that they need to go to that extreme, then we have to consider that as well,” Edwards told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast.
