He told Perth Today host Simon Beaumont that rural WA was experiencing severe hardship and felt abandoned by government support.

The unrest led to serious acts, including a railway line being blown up, banks being sabotaged, and real death threats against federal politicians.

That was my role. I’ve always hated the nickname ‘bullet catcher’, but myself and my crew in the dignitary protection area — that’s basically what we were,” he said.
