As food prices continue to soar, grocery shoppers are attending farmers markets in bigger numbers for fresh food and veg and other specialist products.

David Vincent, organiser of the Farmers Market on Manning – which has 90 stall holders (one pictured above) – said shoppers are ditching the supermarket for the friendly atmosphere of weekend growers markets.

“There’s a growing interest in customers wanting to know where there food is coming from,” he told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast.

“They can chat to the grower or the farmer … you can bring your pooch along, you can sit down and talk to anyone, it’s a friendly environment, I never hear a child cry!”

Listeners also revealed their favourite markets, with Mt Claremont and Stirling just two given the thumbs up.
