Greens Senator says that gender specific presents for children are link to domestic violence in later life.

Larissa Waters is throwing her support behind Play Unlimited’s "No Gender December" campaign, calling on parents to boycott Christmas presents that reinforce gender stereotypes and divides.

In the firing line are Barbie dolls for girls and toy trucks for boys.

Senator Waters says these type of toys perpetuated negative social stereotypes.

"Out-dated stereotypes about girls and boys and men and women, perpetuate gender inequality, which feeds into very serious problems such as domestic violence and the gender pay gap."
