Greens back safe spaces for abortion clinics
Legislation to create safe spaces of 150 metres around abortion clinics to protect women seeking abortions from harassment will be introduced by the WA Greens.
They say the legislation will bring WA in line with New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania, all of which have Safe Access Zones around reproductive health care clinics.
Currently women accessing the Dr Marie Slopes clinic in Midland are being picketed by a group including One Nation candidate Michelle Meyers. Ms Meyers made headlines yesterday after it was revealed she believed marriage equality was a Nazi ‘mind control’ plot.
Women’s rights activist and Greens candidate Sarah Nielsen-Harvey said a safe zone of 150 metres around clinics was vital in protecting a woman’s right to seek any form of reproductive health care, especially abortions. She is also calling on One Nation to disendorse Michelle Meyers for her ‘harmful opinions’.
