Government rejects “legal quagmire” attacks on Voice referendum

Federal Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus has rejected claims the Voice to Parliament referendum will open government to a “quagmire” of legal challenges.
Mr Dreyfus told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings the Solicitor General had been fully involved in the formulation of the referendum, but releasing the specific legal advice would be “inconsistent” with usual government process.
“If you look at the history of referendums, people who are trying to encourage Australians to vote ‘No’ very often will raise irrelevant matters,” he said.
