Government ignores own Jobseeker rate advice
The Federal Government is expected to reject advice to raise Jobseeker payments, despite it’s own reviewers warning of dire reports from those on welfare.
ACOSS Deputy CEO Edwina McDonald told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings there are excessive numbers of people foregoing medication, food and healthcare due to welfare not meeting cost-of-living levels.
“The time is now to be increasing these payments – I mean, really, it was 10 years ago,” Ms McDonald said.
“We know the situation is at absolute crisis point.”
