The government has announced a seven-year strategy to better deal with cybercrime after a run of major data hacks.

Part of the plan includes the appointment of a cyber security coordinator to deal with cyber attacks.

CyberCX Chief strategy officer and former head of the Australian Cyber Security Centre Alastair MacGibbon told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live the strategy is about protecting Australians.

“The public is right to be worried,” said Mr MacGibbon.

“I think we have given away far too much information and too much has been collected.”
