EDITORIAL: I want to ask why the WA government has done a secret deal to settle a long-running legal dispute with Perth Children’s Hospital builders, John Holland.
The Chinese-owned construction company decided to sue the government for $300 million over contractual issues… you might remember that lead-in-the-water debacle, before the hospital even opened.
You might also even recall what the Premier thought of the company at the time, and how he was determined to fight them all the way.
In 2017, the Premier said John Holland had “not behaved well” in relation to the hospital.
“Whatever the construction company said, shouldn’t be taken too seriously,” he said at the time.

Did the government pay John Holland any money? Is there a secret deal to give them work in the future?
This is a company that behaved badly and delivered a hospital that was shambles, according to the Premier.
What’s gone on in the meeting rooms of John Holland and government lawyers… what’s the deal?
You and I are in the dark and you know what, that rings alarm bells.
