Gareth Parker slams courts after another violent incident in Northbridge
Gareth Parker says Northbridge and the city “are in a bad way” after yet another violent attack over the weekend.
It comes after 18-year-old Samuel Mohamed Lamin Bah was charged with the stabbing murder of 28-year-old Manar Pan-Mading, who was reportedly trying to break up a fight in the early hours of Saturday morning.
It was revealed during a court appearance that Mr Bah was out on bail for a string of other charges.
“There’s way too much violence on the streets, and we’ve seen way too many people injured, or even killed, as a result of the violent incidents,” Gareth Parker said.
“While nightclub owners are trying their very best to convince people that Northbridge is safe … what hope do they have when people who are accused of previous violent crimes are free to roam the streets.
“We’re just seeing way, way too much of it. The justice system needs take violent offences seriously.
“I know that there’s an imperative to not fill up the jails, but we’ve got to get these things fit for purpose.”
