Gareth Parker lambasts journalist, newspaper over Justin Langer smear campaign

6PR Breakfast host Gareth Parker has taken specific aim at a journalist and their publication for its ongoing campaign to have West Australian cricket legend and national team coach Justin Langer removed from the role when his contract ends mid year.
Parker accused The Sydney Morning Herald, which like Radio 6PR is owned by Nine, and long-time cricket writer Malcolm Conn of a smear campaign to oust Langer from the role after a well-publicised player mutiny in August.
“When I opened up the SMH this morning I couldn’t believe my eyes,” Parker told 6PR Breakfast listeners.
“Here’s the facts, Langer took over a cultural basket case, he led them team through its darkest period.
“He won the T20 World Cup, he then had to deal with the absolute geniuses at Cricket Australia bungling the situation around Tim Paine on the eve of the Ashes, and amid all of that he got the team ready and they won 4-0.”
Parker revealed it was “poor form” for Conn, an experienced cricket writer, to relay as a journalist in newspaper articles his experiences with Langer in 2019, while he was temporarily the Australian cricket team’s PR manager.
