We’ve already covered the most influential phrase of the year, but that barely scratches the surface when it comes to the corporate newsspeak and never-ending cavalcade of meme language which now pervades our daily lives.

So in an effort at balance, the Plain English Foundation has released what they are calling “The Worst Words of 2023”, and boy, are there some doozies.

The Foundation’s Greg Moriarty explained to Chrissy Morrissey how they decided on the worst words of the year

“We choose words that are prominent in the year; we look for deceitful language, ugly words and basically just phrases that are unclear, deliberately a lot of the time,” Mr Moriarty said.
