Fresh limits on essential items at Coles, Woolworths from today

Our two major supermarket chains have reinstated product limits in WA to combat the flooding impact on freight into the state.
Woolworths on Thursday introduced two-pack purchase limits on flour, sugar, rice, pasta, eggs, paper towels, frozen fruit, frozen vegetables and frozen chips in WA.
Coles has also enacted limits on some products that cannot be produced in WA, including toilet paper, chicken products, sausages, tissues, paper towels, flour, sugar, dry rice and pasta.
Coles WA general operations manager Pat Zanetti told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast the supermarket chain wasn’t in panic mode and was confident the buying limits would ensure essential products were available while the rail line was fixed.
“Limits play a really important role through this stage, for us it’s about fair share,” he said.
The precautionary measures come after flooding along the key east-west freight rail track severely impacted the volume of food and grocery products coming into WA.
“More than 80 per cent of our fresh fruit and vegetable range is sourced from growers within WA, so we expect that part of the store will hold up reasonably well. We also source a large volume of our milk, dairy and meat locally,” Woolworths WA general manager Karl Weber said.
