The City of Fremantle is implementing changes to parking at Leighton and Port Beaches, introducing four-hour time limits and parking meters in the car parks, though parking will remain free.

According to Hannah Fitzhardinge, Mayor of the City of Fremantle, who spoke with 6PR Breakfast hosts Millsy and Karl, these measures address concerns about workers using the car parks for park-and-ride and issues with overnight campers.

“It is a challenge, and we appreciate that with a housing shortage there are a lot of people who are sleeping in vehicles. We try not to be too punitive, but at the same time, we can’t have our beach car parks completely excluded from beach users because of campers.” she said.
