Fremantle Dockers president Chris Sutherland has dismissed claims that the artist behind this year’s Herald Sun premiership poster was told to “de-wharfie” his initial concept.

Artist Mark Knight stated he was sent back to the drawing board due to concerns over “uber masculinity” regarding his original design, which featured a muscular, beanie-clad, bearded wharfie with a “1st flag” tattoo.

Sutherland told 6PR Breakfast hosts Millsy and Karl that the club wanted an inclusive design.

“We just wanted to make sure we felt it represented the broader church that we are today … it still depicts a wharfie with a nice Docker tattoo on his arm”, Sutherland said.
