Police are investigating reports that a package was thrown over the perimeter fence at Acacia Prison by a man on a quad bike.

It is alleged that an inmate subsequently dug under a secondary fence to retrieve the package, which remains missing.

Western Australian Prison Officers Union acting state secretary Beven Hanlon told 6PR Breakfast hosts Millsy and Karl that there are serious concerns the package contained a weapon, which has yet to be recovered from the facility.

“There’s a lot of crime happening and being coordinated from within prison. If somebody decided they need to take somebody out, getting a weapon thrown over the fence would be an easy way of making that happen”, he said.
