Father’s struggle outlines acute doctor shortage

A father’s attempts to find a paediatrician to see her in-need daughter has raised concerns over the accessibility of specialists through the public health system.

Listener Paul’s daughter requires speech pathology after they found her blocked ears had delayed her vocal development, and while they had been seeing a private speech pathologist, their attempts to see a publicly-listed specialist has hit road blocks.

“The paediatrician wait lists around Perth are up to a year – one even told us three years,” Paul told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings.

“I understand they’re at capacity, but were are the access to services?”
