New fathers could receive 20 weeks paid leave to spend time with their newborn child at home, due to the push by Labor Government to improve the quality of Commonwealth-funded parental leave.

Georgie Dent, Executive Director from ‘The Parenthood,’ told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live that Dad’s in Australia take less than 20% of the parental leave days that other Dad’s do globally.

“Our policy setting does not encourage or enable them to do that,” she said.

“We know that the family benefits from when Dad’s are supported to engage in the care-giving in that first year of life. ”

Press PLAY to hear what these changes could mean for new families.
