A Queensland man has died after a fatal snake bite at a community event on Sunday, spurring WA residents to watch out for snakes as they emerge from hibernation.

Marcus Cosentino from Snake Catchers Perth told Michael Thomson on 6PR Mornings there are multiple things people can do to avoid a snake should it be in their backyard.

“Best thing to do is avoid movement because movement is what scares our snakes and makes them want to run and hide,” Mr Thomson said.

“If you want it safely removed from your yard, try and keep an eye on it so we know where it is at all times.”
