Family to lay remains to rest in Anzac Day first

Simon Beaumont

Mandurah RSL will be the first Returned Services League branch to lay the cremated remains of veterans to rest at a memorial.

The decision came to the RSL’s president Dave Mabbs “at about 4.30 in the morning while laying in bed,” and he quickly realised it would be a great chance to make a lasting impact on Anzac Day.

“I thought, ‘What a great and dignified opportunity for family members with loved one’s ashes,'” he told Gary Adshead onĀ 6PR Mornings.

It’s also a very personal action for Mr Mabbs, who laid his own brother’s ashes to rest during the ceremony.
