Facial recognition technology is being used in various venues across Australia, and stadiums have also been investigated.

Jarni Blakkarly, CHOICE investigative journalist, told Jaime Burnett on Perth Live, “The scanning and storing of potentially thousands of peoples biometric data is probably a disproportionate response of the small number of people who might be on some of these banned lists.”

“We think that some of these stadiums, having these really long privacy policies statements hidden on their websites, which might mention facial recognition technology somewhere… is not adequate consent,” Mr. Blakkarly continued.
