The McGowan government will overhaul WA’s outdated firearms laws, with potentially lethal weapons rife in almost every street across the city.

The number of licenced guns in WA soared from 218,765 in 2009 to 349,492 in January this year, or 60 per cent in 13 years, while the number of WA residents who hold a gun licence static at just over 89,000.

Four per cent of all West Australian adults are gun owners, with each possessing on average four firearms each.

Police Minister Paul Papalia told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast the biggest overhaul of firearm laws in WA’s history was on the cards.
