Scrutiny has intensified over international students exploiting Australia’s visa system via “course hopping” – such as one individual who enrolled in 24 separate programs to extend her stay.

However, Phil Honeywood, chief executive of the International Education Association of Australia, told 6PR Breakfast hosts Millsy and Rusty that despite these visa abuses, Australia’s economy heavily relies on international students.

“The bottom line is that a lot of the jobs that they do, you won’t get any young person in Perth thinking about doing”, Honeywood said.
