An eagle-eyed 6PR listener spotted a “fireball” early yesterday morning.

Caller Mark called in to tell Mark Gibson about the unusual sight in the sky at around 4.15am.

So this morning, 6PR Breakfast sought an explanation from the experts!

Matt Woods from the Perth Observatory explained exactly what Mark had spotted.

“What we saw was a fireball, or technical term is a Bolide, so that is a fiery death of a meteor that’s very, very bright,” he said.

‘This thing would have been no smaller than a pebble and it probably would have been as big as a rock the size of your first.”
