Experts calling for government to urgently reform Banksia Hill

As Banksia Hill faced yet another riot, there are growing concerns Western Australia’s juvenile prison system is broken.
Juvenile justice expert at Curtin’s Law School Doctor Stephen Monterosso told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live says WA’s juvenile prisons are deteriorating.
“If we treat them inhumanely at Banksia Hill, it’s not going to help,” Dr Monterosso said.
“There should be better programs… treating people inhumanely as juvenile offenders you can almost guarantee escalation into adult offending and server consequences for the community.”
