Expert reveals unusual, yet “foolproof” tactic to avoid magpie swooping

Magpie swooping season is soon to return for another year with Spring around the corner.
Sean Dooley from BirdLife Australia told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live the best ways to avoid being swooped by a magpie.
“There is no magical solution. The eyes on the back of the helmet can help, it’s a big risk for magpie’s to make contact with you when you swoop so if they feel like you’re looking at them, they’re perhaps less likely to swoop,” he told Oly.
Mr Dooley revealed the interesting tactic of befriending magpie’s as the foolproof way to avoid being swooped.
“We know that magpie’s almost never swoop someone who feeds them. Whether you agree with feeding wild birds or not but the fact is the people who feed people in their backward never get swooped by magpie’s or it’s extremely rare.”
“The best nutritional thing for a Magpie is cat or dog biscuits, they are not very harmful for the magpies.”
