Expert assures there are ‘no safety concerns’ in COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine for kids aged 5-11

An associate professor says that data coming back from the US shows that there are “no safety concerns” for a modified COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine, intended to be used on primary school aged children.
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) provisionally approved the modified Pfizer vaccine for children aged five to eleven, with the rollout expected to begin January 10.
University of NSW associate professor Nicholas Wood said there have only been mild side-effects reported so far.
“The common thing are things like headache, fever … myalgia muscle aches and injection site pain … the usual things that we see in that twelve to eighteen year old age group,” he said on 6PR Mornings.
“It’s being watched very closely by regulators in safety committees in each of the different countries, and the same will happen in Australia.
“So we’ll be watching, monitoring, do we see any change in the safety profile when we give it to a much larger number of kids.”
