Experienced ICU nurse can’t get healthcare job in WA

An experienced nurse says she can’t land a job in WA’s healthcare industry.
Ebony, who got her nursing qualification in Australia, told Gary Adshead she’s worked for the NHS in the UK for over 14 years as an ICU and palliative care nurse and operating medical devices.
Ebony said she found it much easier to land a job in the UK.
“I did a lot of agency work, so going to various hospitals around London … it was really easy to get a job,” she said on 6PR Mornings.
Ebony let her nursing registration lapse last year, but found the reapplication process onerous.
“You’d be horrified, even to call them, the hours you spend on hold to speak to somebody,” she said.
“They’re not nurses who nurse anymore, they don’t see what’s happening on the front lines.”
Shadow Health Minister Libby Mettam said Ebony wasn’t the only healthcare worker frustrated by WA’s application processes.
“She is a number of a cases who we have heard from, who have been frustrated by not only the bureacracy but the challenges in coming to work here in WA,” she said.
