EVs and hybrids are now mandated to have an Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS) for pedestrian safety.
James Ward, Director of Content for drive.com.au, clarified for 6PR Breakfast hosts Millsy and Karl that the audible alert is only active when the vehicle is travelling below 20km per hour.
“As of first of November has been mandated for any new electric vehicle and any new vehicle that can drive silently,” he said.
