It’s World Kangaroo Day and a petition has been delivered to the European Union (EU) to stop the import of kangaroo meat into Europe.

The call comes after kangaroo activist Michael McIntyre announced the commercial kangaroo industry is not monitored and the Australian icon needs to be protected.

Kangaroo Industries Association of Australia president Ray Borda told 6PR Mornings host Liam Bartlett, the commercial kangaroo industry has one of the strictest animal consumption policies in the industry.

“We do take it seriously… but (Michael McIntyre) doesn’t really have any basis to work on,” Mr Borda says.
