While we prepare to celebrate Easter this long weekend, WA is experiencing a short supply of eggs, thankfully not the chocolate kind.

Commercial Egg Producers Association WA president Ian Wilson told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings the lack of eggs in our supermarkets came down to our extremely warm summer.

“With the extraordinary hot weather we had over the Christmas and New Years period, the chickens just can not cope with those extreme conditions, which impacts the amount of feed they eat and the amount of eggs they can produce” Wilson said.

Woolies confirmed in a statement “there is an issue of reduced supply in the WA egg market that is not isolated to Woolies and is affecting all the majors”.

Likewise Coles said: “WA is currently experiencing a shortage of eggs across all retailers due to a number of factors including weather and supply chain disruption.”
