Does WA need drug injecting rooms?

A member of WA Parliament has put forward a motion to see whether or not drug injecting rooms or a viable option, yet the State Government doesn’t want to touch the subject.

Member for the East Metropolitan Region Doctor Brian Walker raised the query in Parliament due to concerns there is a distinct lack of safe areas directed towards harm minimisation compared to other states.

Dr Walker told Millsy and Karl on 6PR Breakfast his call for research has absolutely no support from other parliamentary members.

“If you overdose on opiates for example, you are liable to die. So a number of lives have been saved [due to safe injecting rooms]; we should do it more often,” Dr Walker said.
