Despite the government bringing 24 blockbuster events to Perth, Western Australia has not only missed its tourism target but is also the only state to see a decline in visitor numbers.

Perth Today host Simon Beaumont interviewed Paul Higgins, owner of Shoe Bar, who identified a core issue: event attendees rarely return and often don’t explore beyond the event itself.

As Higgins stated, “That’s their one time, they haven’t been to Perth before, they see it as an opportunity to come and have a look around, but that’s them, they’ve ticked that box and we don’t sort of ever see them again.”
