Dirk Hartog Island pest-free and protecting native species for future generations

Simon Beaumont

Dirk Hartog Island is turning back time to its original pristine state.

Perth Today host Simon Beaumont and roving reporter Jessie James spoke to Sara McAllister from DBCA at the Caravan and Camping Show about how the Return to 1616 program is bringing back all the native species from the island and conserving them for future generations.

We have managed to get it pest-free now, we’ve got no feral cats, no sheep, no goats, and that’s one of the only islands you can find like that,” she said.
