Today the Federal Agriculture Minister announced a new panel of experts to oversee the phasing out of live sheep exports.

However, during the press conference announcing the change, WA Farmers President John Hassell was asked to leave after he turned up unannounced to defend sheep exports.

Mr Hassell told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live the ban is about animal activism and “petty politics”.

“It displays a complete lack of accountability… we should be allowed to question them,” said Mr Hassell.

“They’re acting as a dictatorship.”

Yet the Federal Member for Fremantle Josh Wilson is welcoming the phase-out of live exports.

Mr Wilson told Oliver Peterson the sheep export industry is “at an end”.

“It’s an industry that has been in decline for 20 years,” said Mr Wilson.
