If you’re in the market for a new car you could be out of luck, with WA wait times for new-car-buyers ballooning to an average of 157 days.

Figures from PriceMyCar show WA has the longest wait times in the country for people who have bought a new car, with the national average hitting 128 days.

WA Motor Trades Association CEO, Stephen Moir, says the figures are staggering.

“We’ve been hit with the perfect storm. We’ve had a chip problem around the world, we’ve had manufacturing delays as a result of COVID hitting other countries, and we’ve had unprecedented demand for new cars and used cars because people aren’t travelling,” he told Oliver Peterson.

Models with the highest waiting time include Kia Sorento’s with 274 days, Toyota RAV4 with 258 days, and Kia Carnival with a 255 day wait.

The national average wait time in January last year was 62 days.
