Criticism builds against government’s ‘deeply disturbing’ maternity plan
As reported by Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings last week, the Government’s sudden shift in policy on the construction of the planned maternity hospital from QEII Medical Centre in Nedlands to Fiona Stanley Hospital Murdoch has left maternity experts scratching their heads.
Co-founder and chief of Helping Little Hands Joanne Beedie told Gary Adshead on 6PR Mornings the extra distance added to the distance between the planned hospital and Perth Children’s Hospital – which houses critical neonatal care facilities – was clear and obvious.
“I was trying to explain to my son this morning what I was going to be talking to you about… in his words, he said, ‘well that would mean you could just walk the babies across the road,'” Ms Beedie said.
“That might be a seven-year-old’s very simplistic view, but it actually gets to the nuts and bolts of the decision.”
