COVID-19 latest: WA records five new cases, Omicron variant confirmed

WA has recorded five new local cases of COVID-19.
Three of the new cases are linked to the Delta backpacker cluster, with two considered having been infectious the community
One of those two is a bar worker who was announced yesterday.
Another case is a hotel quarantine worker at the Hyatt Hotel, and a household member.
It was also confirmed that another security guard who contracted the disease has the Omicron variant.
A bar in Broome has been listed as a potential exposure site.

The Deputy Premier Roger Cook also confirmed the ACT and Tasmania will become “extreme risk” zones from Saturday.
6PR and 9 News Reporter, Jake Battrick, says the rise in the Omicron strain is behind the change.
“This week, we’ve seen more and more interstate arrivals testing positive to the virus in WA’s quarantine facilities,” he said.
