Costly commute: Families fork out $400 a week on transport

WA households are spending about $400 on transport costs each week, as getting from ‘A to B’ becomes a heavier burden on family finances.
The figure includes fuel, vehicle registration, insurance, loan repayments and public transport, according to the Australian Automobile Association’s quarterly transport affordability report released on Friday.
RAC external relations general manager Will Golsby told 6PR Breakfast host Gareth Parker he’d like to see the McGowan government freeze vehicle registration fees for the next three years, as cost-of-living pressures on families soar.
“Everyone is under pressure, we’ve seen what’s happening with the economy, and registration, motoring and fuel is having an impact,” he said on Friday.
“They’ve done it before and we feel it’s something they should do again, with the State Budget coming up.”
