Mindarie Regional Council chair Gary Mack told 6PR Mornings host Simon Beaumont that as the site nears closure, the council has voted to redirect household waste to a Kwinana waste-to-energy facility.

However, closing the site remains a complex, long-term process. Mary O’Byrne of the Tamala Park Odour Action Group accused Mack of deflection, citing 2.07 billion litres of leachate sitting on a potentially compromised liner.

“He missed telling you about the 2.07 billion litres. He didn’t want to talk about the liner and he doesn’t want to talk about the groundwater”, O’Byrne said.
