 There are growing concerns about a critical shortage of vets in Perth and Western Australia, causing significant problems for vet owners.

David Neck, Perth veterinarian, told Perth Live that this has also created big problems for the industry, as veterinarians are unable to take leave and are completely burnt out.

“It’s heading towards dire and it’s probably going to get there in the future. I don’t see a salvation for it at the moment and it’s definitely a squeeze us vets have noticed,” Mr Neck said.

“In a nutshell, Australia produces a large amount of vets – yet we are not producing enough vets for the country, so we rely on holidaying vets that come through – and this has dried up through Covid.”
