Concerning new findings show 99% of children’s menus are unhealthy

The Telethon Kids Institute have found that 99 per cent of children’s menus at 787 cafes and restaurants in Perth were unhealthy.
Dr Amelia Harray, Nutritionist and study co-author told Oliver Peterson on Perth Live that they were very surprised by these results.
“Lots of chips were often the default size to most dishes so parents don’t have the option to offer their kids fresh or cooked vegetables alternatively to chips,” she told Oly.
“For most businesses they know that these meals are often highly accepted by both children and parents so they sell – although we did find some businesses do a great job in trying to offer healthier options on their menu.”
Water instead of soft drinks or juice, offering steamed veggies instead of chips or incorporating more veggies on top of pizzas or pastas were some of Dr Harray’s suggestions that Perth restaurants can take on board.
