Australian pilots are concerned for the safety of travel as Airbus announced they have started testing a fully automated A350 aircraft.

The aircraft design is inspired by dragonflies and would require little to no control by a pilot.

Australian and International Pilots Association (AIPA) president and Qantas A330 captain Tony Lucas told 6PR Afternoons the complete automation of planes is dangerous.

“It’s a cost-cutting exercise,” said Captain Lucas.

“It will reduce safety.”
