Community sports clubs collapsing under rising costs

Steven Mills and Mick Collis

New research has found almost one in five community sporting clubs are on the brink of shutting their doors permanently.

The Australian Sports Foundation found that 27 per cent of community clubs had seen a decline in new registrations among 15 to 19 year olds, while 18 per cent were on the brink of collapse.

ASF CEO Patrick Walker told Millsy and Mick onĀ 6PR Breakfast it painted a dire picture of our nation’s sporting future.

The issues we’re facing on top of the impact of Covid, the bushfires, the floods; it’s this cost-of-living crisis. People are finding the cost of rego is too expensive,” Mr Walker said.
