Common mistakes we are making with our password

Simon Beaumont

A cyber security expert believes individuals and businesses are more at risk than ever since the pandemic began.

Lastpass lead identity Lloyd Evans said his company’s ‘Psychology of Passwords’ report explored the password security behaviors of 3,750 professionals across seven countries.

He told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings 91 per cent of us had created at least one new account this year, while the same percentage also have up to 50 accounts online or via apps.

“The password actually turns 62 this year… and we’re still having similar conversations with people around automation… make it easy for yourself,” he said.

Other key findings from the post-pandemic report include:

  • 70% reported spending more time online
  • 65% people use the same password or a variation for multiple accounts
  • 45% didn’t change their passwords in the past year, even after a data breach
