Climate change destroying one of WA’s most beloved bays

The Long Lunch

The Western Australian Marine Science Institution has unveiled new plans to focus research efforts on the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Shark Bay region to protect the site.

This comes after reports of dying sealife which, if left untreated could cause irreversible damage.

WAMSI research director and the report’s chief author Dr Jenny Shaw told Jo McManus on 6PR Afternoons climate change is one of the biggest threats to the region.

“These events aren’t going to just go away… they’ll possibly become more frequent and more severe,” said Dr Shaw.
