One of the first victims of Bradley Robert Edwards has written a book about the attack to encourage others to speak up and ‘make a fuss’ if they have been a victim of violence.

Edwards, then aged 21, grabbed former social worker Wendy Davis in 1990 as she sat working at her desk in Hollywood Hospital, shoved a cloth into her mouth, and began dragging her towards an isolated toilet block. The Telecom technician was later charged with the minor offence of common assault.

“At the time, both the police and Telecom seemed to be more interested in protecting a man’s job and then looking at protecting a woman’s safety,” she told 6PR Mornings host Gareth Parker on Wednesday.

“I buried it [the attack], but when he was arrested, all the trauma came back… [the trial] was a very long three years.”

Her new book Don’t Make a Fuss: It’s Only the Claremont Serial Killer details the harrowing struggle with the then-Telecom apprentice and her beliefs WA Police and Telstra didn’t take her attack more seriously.

Six years later, Edwards would abduct and murder two women using his Telstra work vehicle after going under the radar until a 2016 cold case review cracked the case.
